*Complete or mostly complete, significant in scope, and fully-playable. While there is certainly room for interpretation for each of these criteria, all games on this list should be playable to completion by the average player in a minimum of fifteen minutes, be the definitive version of that game (no demos of commercial games), and contain no glitches that prevent completion and/or crash the game. For inclusion on this list, a game should also have most of its intended levels and mechanics included, as described by the game's developer. In terms of the minimum playtime requirement, high-score based puzzle and arcade-style games are less limited in this regard due to their essentially infinite replayability, though should still include score counters, life meters, and preferably (though not a requirement) high-score counters where applicable to be considered complete or near-complete. Due to the varying ways these criteria can be interpreted, they may be applied differently on a case-by-case basis.

As the games on the lists are more thoroughly tested, some games currently present may be removed if they are found not to meet the required criteria. If several iterations of a game exist on a platform, such as Pong or Tetris, the best few among them should be kept and the rest removed, assuming that the latter do not have additional mechanics that make them unique. Additionally, new games will be added to the lists as they are found, whether by a FunKey Wiki editor or otherwise. Once a page for suggesting additions to or removals from these lists has been created, it will be linked to here.

This article is a repository of links to homebrew and freeware games that are or will be playable on the FunKey S via emulation. Each supported system has its own section that contains a chart with that console's homebrew software. Currently, the systems supported by the FunKey S are, from oldest to newest: the NES, Master System, Sega Genesis, Game Boy, Atari Lynx, Game Gear, SNES, PS1, Game Boy Color, Neo Geo Pocket, and Game Boy Advance. Additionally, lists for Arcade and TurboGrafx-16 games are present as well, due to the announcement of future FunKey S compatibility with those systems. While these lists have been compiled to include as many games as possible, they are not intended to be comprehensive lists of all unlicensed software available for the aforementioned systems, due to a number of inclusion criteria that are listed in the first section of this article. As more systems are made emulatable on the FunKey S, this article will grow to include homebrew game lists for those systems as well.

Inclusion criteria

For inclusion on a list in this article, a game must be:

  • Emulatable directly on a system supported by or with support announced for the FunKey S. Games only playable by emulating a system within a system (such as DOS emulation on the GBA) will not be listed until the respective system is emulatable on the FunKey S directly. If future support for a system has been announced for the FunKey S, a list of homebrew and freeware games may be created for that system on this page before FunKey S support for that system begins.
  • Publicly available for free with the permission of its developer. This excludes any and all commercial software, unreleased software, and pirated software, whether licensed or unlicensed in origin.
  • Original in its codebase. While ports and recreations of games on other platforms are allowed, ROM hacks of commercial software on that platform are not.
  • Sufficiently appropriate for a general audience. Just as all major consoles prohibit the publication of adults-only games on their platforms, these lists will not include any games that, if rated based on the standards of a rating board such as the ESRB, would be rated as adults-only.
  • In English, or if in another language, fully playable without needing to understand that language. If a translated version of this page exists in the language that a non-English game is in, then that game may be put on the list of that page instead.
  • Complete or mostly complete, significant in scope, and fully-playable.

As the games on these lists are more thoroughly tested, some games currently present may be removed if they are found to not meet the required criteria. If several iterations of a game exist on a platform, such as Pong or Tetris, the best few among them should be kept and the rest removed, assuming that the latter do not have additional mechanics that make them unique. Additionally, new games will be added to the lists as they are found and tested. Once a page for suggesting additions to or removals from these lists has been created, it will be linked to here.

List contents

As of present the lists only include the names of games and the links to where they can be downloaded. Once the lists are in place and more thoroughly tested, additional information such as game genres, file sizes, and box or game art will be added to the charts. Iterations of the following commonly ported games will be highlighted to distinguish them from the other games on the lists: 2048, Arkanoid/Breakout, Asteroids, Flappy Bird, Minesweeper, Pong, Space Invaders, and Tetris.
