Since the last update we have created testing banks to test for mechanical issues in multiple devices simultaneously. Designed and printed by @maximephan, they're awesome and have saved us a lot of time! While the rate of mechanical issues has been relatively low (around 4%), the significant number of messages we have received about MicroSD cards failing over time has convinced us to replace all of them with better ones. We discovered that this issue is caused by the cutting off of power to the MicroSD card when the FunKey S is turned off using the Instant Action feature. As the microcontrollers inside our chosen MicroSD cards are still performing operations when power is shut off to them, they tend to break over time. With each manufacturer having their own microcontroller with little to no documentation available online, we have been unable to solve this issue with the current MicroSD cards and have therefore decided to source replacement cards that do not malfunction when their power source is shut off. To simultaneously test the many MicroSD card candidates that we received, we created another set of testing banks that use electro-magnets to turn FunKey S systems on and off while constantly writing data to them. The most promising of these cards not only does not malfunction under the testing conditions, but also meets the U3 standard with a write speed of 30 MB/s. After the significant shipment delays, upgrading the MicroSD cards at no cost to backers is the very least that we can do. We'll continue to keep everyone informed about the state of the MicroSD cards, but for now this card appears to be a great candidate! |

Thanks to the helpful feedback of the initial FunKey recipients, we have been able to add many improvements to FunKey-OS. As the update isn't quite finished yet we will save most of the details for next week's update, but we can confirm that aside from a number of performance enhancements and software improvements, the alternative Gmenu2x launcher will also be ready for inclusion. 😊 One unexpected perk of the delayed shipments is that in addition to the faster U3 MicroSD card, the remaining consoles will automatically be flashed with this updated version of FunKey-OS. Backers who have already received their devices will be able to apply the software update with a simple drag and drop via the MicroUSB port, just like adding a game! 😊 |

As the update isn't quite finished yet we will save most of the details for next week's update, but we can confirm that aside from a number of performance enhancements and software improvements, the alternative Gmenu2x launcher will also be ready for inclusion. 😊 One unexpected perk of the delayed shipments is that in addition to the faster U3 MicroSD card, the remaining consoles will automatically be flashed with this updated version of FunKey-OS. Backers who have already received their devices will be able to apply the software update with a simple drag and drop via the MicroUSB port, just like adding a game! 😊
